Former NFL cornerback Vontae Davis was found dead at age 35.

Davis was found deceased at the home of his grandmother in Florida, with no initial cause of death provided but no foul play suspected.

Davis had an abbreviated NFL career, most notably with the Indianapolis Colts, but was best known for retiring unexpectedly at halftime of a Bills game in 2018 while trailing, citing not wanting to put his body through the grind anymore.

Though criticized at the time, Davis later said he was fine with his decision.

“Most people, when I did what I did, they thought I was literally going insane or something,” Davis said. “But I was actually fine. I was totally fine.”

“And I’m totally fine today,” he said.

“Babe I’m done. I’m hanging up my cleats. I don’t want to put my body through this anymore,” he texted his wife.

No cause was given for his unexpected death at a young age.
