Shares of Donald Trump’s social media company Trump Media & Technology Group surged on its first day of public trading under the new DJT ticker symbol.

The initial demand was so strong that trading was halted due to the share price rising over 50%.

By midday, shares were up 33% from the IPO price and Trump’s 281% year-to-date gain on his majority stake in the company increased its value to around $5.5 billion, representing a personal gain of $2.5 billion in just a few days.

The strong stock performance following the merger with Digital World Acquisition Corp. resulted in Trump joining Bloomberg’s list of the world’s 500 wealthiest individuals due to his social media company windfall.
