Well, this didn’t last long.

Weeks after announcing his retirement, legendary NFL quarterback Tom Brady has “unretired” and confirmed that he is an NFL player again.

“I’m coming back for my 23rd season in Tampa,” Brady wrote to Twitter. “Unfinished business LFG,” he added.

“These past two months I’ve realized my place is still on the field and not in the stands,” Brady said. “That time will come. But it’s not now. I love my teammates, and I love my supportive family. They make it all possible.” Take a look:

Brady is widely considered to be the greatest player in NFL history.

Besides winning seven Super Bowls and three MVP awards, Brady is also remembered as having a “Make America Great Again” hat in his locker. He was reportedly a friend of President Donald Trump leading up to the 2016 election.

Years ago, during a visit to the White House for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Super Bowl win, Brady made a joke at the expense of Joe Biden. Brady explained that his teammates mockingly called him “Sleepy Tom” when he lost track of which down it was during an offensive drive.

Trump notoriously referred to Biden as “Sleepy Joe” during the 2020 election. “They started calling me ‘Sleepy Tom,’” Brady said.

Brady also cracked another joke: “Not a lot of people think that we could have won,” Brady said. “In fact, I think about 40% of people still don’t think we won.

“You understand that, Mr. President?” Brady asked, clearly poking fun about the fact that many Americans question whether Biden won the 2020 presidential election amid widespread claims of alleged voter fraud.

“I understand that,” Biden responded.

Previously in 2015, Brady responded to questions about Trump saying, “Can I just stay out of this debate? Donald is a good friend of mine. I have known him for a long time. I support all my friends.” Watch the clip:

After much speculation, Brady seemed to confirm that he was retiring for good.

“I have always believed the sport of football is an “all-in” proposition – if a 100% competitive commitment isn’t there, you won’t succeed and success is what I love so much about our game,” Brady wrote in an Instagram post.

“There is a physical, mental, and emotional challenge EVERY single day that has allowed me to maximize my highest potential. And I have tried my very best these past 22 years. There are no shortcuts to success on the field or in life. This is difficult for me to write, but here it goes: I am not going to make that competitive commitment anymore,” Brady wrote.

“I have loved my NFL career, and now it is time to focus my time and energy on other things that require my attention.”

Brady’s full post is quite lengthy as he recognized and thanked many people. NFL’s JJ Watt responded, “Congratulations and enjoy the next chapter brother. Greatest of All Time.” NBA’s Kevin Love said, “Greatest Ever!!!”

NBA Legend Shaq pushed back, “No man get your butt up and do one more year,” and later added “love u bro absolute joy to watch.” The sports publication Bleacher Report responded, “The GOAT.”

However, it appears he’s coming back to the NFL.
