Tragic news struck this weekend as the winner of Miss USA 2019 jumped to her death from the 29th floor of a condominium building in New York City.

Authorities suspect that the death is a suicide. The body of 30-year-old Cheslie Kryst is currently undergoing an autopsy and the medical examiner will ultimately rule on the cause of death.

Just hours before Kryst died, she posted a picture on Instagram with the caption, “May this day bring you rest and peace.” Here’s the photo:

Kryst was working for Extra TV as an entertainment news correspondent. She was even nominated for an Emmy.

“Our hearts are broken,” Extra TV said in a statement. “Cheslie was not just a vital part of our show, she was a beloved part of our Extra family and touched the entire staff. Our deepest condolences to all her family and friends.”

Kryst reportedly jumped from a terrace at the Orion condominium building, which is a 60-story high-rise in the theater district of Manhattan.

Police were called at 7:05 a.m. and she was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Kryst, a former civil litigation attorney who received her MBA and law degree from Wake Forest University, won Miss USA in 2019.

“She was one of the brightest, warmest, and most kind people we have ever had the privilege of knowing, and she lit up every room she entered,” the Miss Universe and Miss USA Organizations said in a joint statement.

“Our entire community mourns her loss, and our thoughts and prayers are with her family during this difficult time.”

Her family said Sunday that Kryst “embodied love and served others.”

“In devastation and great sorrow, we share the passing of our beloved Cheslie,” her family said. “Her great light was one that inspired others around the world with her beauty and strength. She cared, she loved, she laughed and she shined.”
