Left-wing Democrats are implementing a new regulation that impacts your Second Amendment right.
Joe Biden’s White House announced a new rule that prevents gun retailers from selling firearms if they have not been certified by the federal government to also sell a specifically compatible “secure gun storage device” that is available on-site to customers.
Gun storage requirements are already mandated under the Gun Control Act of 1999, but this new rule impacts new Federal Firearms License applicants.
As a result, some Americans may be denied their Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms if they are not in compliance with this rule, which is set to go into effect on February 3.
NRA spokesman Lars Dalseide notes that gun-rights groups have always supported the safe storage of firearms. Most new firearms already come with gun locks that would qualify under the regulation.
The problem with this new rule, according to the NRA, is that “many gun stores sell used guns, which means they have to also have some means of gun storage on-site regardless of what comes with new firearms.”
“That means already limited inventory space is going to have to be filled with expensive and often unnecessary gun storage options,” Dalseide explained.
Acceptable devices include “a safe, gun safe, gun case, lock box, or other device that is designed to be or can be used to store a firearm and that is designed to be unlocked only by means of a key, a combination, or other similar means.”
Democrats claim the tragic school shooting in Michigan justifies this new measure, which aims to force gun owners to purchase specific storage devices for their firearms.
The parents of 15-year-old Ethan Crumbley were arrested after the Michigan student killed four and injured seven others.
Crumbley used a firearm he took from his parents’ home. Oakland County prosecutor Karen McDonald said the gun was stored in an unlocked drawer in the parents’ bedroom.
The parents, James and Jennifer Crumbley, were charged with four counts of involuntary manslaughter on Dec. 3.
The 9mm Sig Sauer SP 2022 used in the shooting was purchased only days before.
Attorney General Merrick Garland released a statement that says the new rule is intended “to reduce the risk of firearms falling into the wrong hands.”
“Gun safety is a Department of Justice priority, and we will continue to take all appropriate steps to help reduce the number of people killed and injured by the misuse of firearms,” Garland said.
