‘Today We Had The Worst Nightmare’: Horrifying School Shooting Takes Place As 6th-Grade Girl Opens Fire, Shoots Three

Allegedly A 6th-grade female student drew a firearm from her backpack at Rigby Middle School and shot two of her peers and a custodian Thursday morning, according to The Blaze.

Jefferson County Sheriff Steve Anderson stated, “This morning, at approximately 9:08 a.m., a sixth grade female student retrieved a handgun from her backpack.”

“She fired multiple rounds inside of the school and out. She injured three people.”

The crazed student was disarmed by a female staff member and detained the shooter until police arrived. No further details were reported.

The three injured victims were taken to the local hospital.

Jefferson School District Superintendent Chad Martin stated, “Today we had the worst nightmare a school district could encounter.”

“We had a school shooting here at Rigby Middle School. What we know so far is the shooter has been apprehended.”

“There is no further threat to the students.”

Lucy Long another 6th grader shared her experience amid the chaos.

Long said that she heard two gunshots around 9:10 A.m.

After hearing the gunshots Long said her classroom went into lockdown.

The lights and computers were shut off and powered down.

Long claimed that she began recording the goings-on inside the classroom so that police officers could know what happened.

A female teacher disarmed the girl and held her until law enforcement arrived and took her into custody, authorities said, without giving other details. Authorities say they’re investigating the motive for the attack and where the girl got the gun.
The three victims were transported to a local hospital via ambulance with injuries that appeared to be non-life threatening. The injured adult is reportedly a custodian at the school, who has since been released from the hospital.

“It’s real,” one of the students is heard saying.
KTVB-TV reported that following the shooting, students were evacuated to another nearby school to be picked up by their parents or bussed home.
