Mitt Romney Makes 2020 Prediction That No One Saw Coming: ‘I Actually Have Long Predicted The President Will Be Reelected’

Senator Mitt Romeny made a prediction for the upcoming presidential election that no one saw coming.

Despite having a long-standing rivalry with President Trump, Romney admitted that he believes Trump will be re-elected, according to The Washington Examiner.

“I’m confident that we will keep the majority in the Senate,” Romney said Wednesday, according to Politico reporter Jake Sherman. “And I actually have long predicted the president will be reelected ⁠— I continue to think that’s the case.”

Romney, who ran for president in 2012 and failed, has openly criticized Trump, despite being a Republican Senator.

In March 2016, Romney called Trump a “fraud” and a “phony.”

“His promises are as worthless as a degree from Trump University,” Romney said that year. “He’s playing members of the American public for suckers: He gets a free ride to the White House, and all we get is a lousy hat.”

“Sen. Romney reminds us that it is not impossible to do the right thing, it’s just hard,” said Democrat Sen. Brian Schatz, following Romney’s conviction vote. “That putting country over party isn’t just a slogan, it’s our solemn obligation. That individuals who have courage and conviction can change history and have an obligation to try.”

Earlier in the year, Romney said, “I will tell my children and their children that I did my duty to the best of my ability, believing that my country expected it of me,” Romney said. “We’re all footnotes at best in the annals of history. But in the most powerful nation on Earth, the nation conceived in liberty and justice, that is distinction enough for any citizen.”

“Tremendous sincerity, what a guy,” Trump responded. “Hard to believe, with this kind of political talent, his numbers would ‘tank’ so badly in Utah!”

Earlier this year, Romney was the only Senate Republican to vote to convict Trump on a charge of abuse of power during his impeachment trial, saying his commitment to God motivated him to ” do the right thing” and vote against Trump.

Romney, who previously had been on the receiving end of attacks from Democrats and media pundits, has been lauded by the same people for his bold pushback on the president.

Trump recently mocked Romney after the senator was seen marching with Christian demonstrators in Washington, D.C., protesting racism in America.

Romney said he joined the march “to find a way to end violence and brutality and to make sure that people understand that black lives matter.”

Romney also said this week that he’ll “ stay quiet” about who he will vote for come November.
