‘We Ought To Start Our Own Network’: Trump Floats Idea To Compete Against CNN

President Trump may already be making some post-presidency plans as he told a Florida crowd that he may start his own news network to compete alongside mainstream media outlets he often describes as “fake news.”

Speaking at an event in The Villages on Thursday, the Washington Examiner reports Trump said: “CNN is a voice that seems to be the voice out there. It’s a terrible thing for our country. We ought to start our own network and put some real news out there, because they are so bad for our country.”

“They are so bad for our country. I go out there and they say, ‘Boy, the media hates your country,’ and it’s just a shame. It’s just a shame. And we really are,” he continued, via the Hill.

“We’re looking at that. We should do something about it, too,” the president said. “Put some really talented people and get a real voice out there, not a voice that’s fake.”

Trump has floated the idea before but his position as president prevents him from personally profiting from a corporation while in office.

In 2018, the Washington Examiner reports Trump described CNN’s “unfair” global presence and said he would be open to starting a news network to compete against them.

“While CNN doesn’t do great in the United States based on ratings, outside of the U.S. they have very little competition. Throughout the world, CNN has a powerful voice portraying the United States in an unfair and false way,” the president tweeted.

“Something has to be done, including the possibility of the United States starting our own Worldwide Network to show the World the way we really are, GREAT!”
