What Happened Outside This Federal Building at 8:30 a.m. Has Investigators Asking Bigger Questions

A suspect remains in custody after an incendiary device was ignited outside 26 Federal Plaza in New York City around 8:30 a.m. Monday.
Two people suffered minor injuries. FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed the individual “deployed an incendiary device” and that the Joint Terrorism Task Force is investigating.
Reports indicated the fire began with fireworks loaded into a wagon displaying a sign reading “ICE off our streets.” Department of Homeland Security officials later stated that an anti-ICE individual launched fireworks that grazed a bystander, then poured what appeared to be gasoline on the entrance stairs and set them ablaze.
A Federal Protective Service officer tackled and detained the person, sustaining minor injuries in the process. The suspect’s identity has not been released.
The incident occurred at a high-profile federal immigration facility, drawing immediate federal attention. Investigators continue examining the materials and any broader motive behind the attack.
