Major Shake-Up: Karoline Leavitt to Leave WH Press Office

President Donald Trump announced that White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt will leave her position at the end of August. The 28-year-old official, who became the youngest person ever to hold the role, will step away to spend more time with her young children and family.

Trump described the decision in personal terms. “Our wonderful White House Press Secretary, and one of my most trusted aides, Karoline Leavitt, will be departing her role at the end of the month so she can spend more time with her beautiful young children and family, a decision I totally understand and respect!” he said.

Leavitt will transition into a new capacity as one of Trump’s top outside advisers. The president indicated she will also serve as an influential voice within the Republican Party ahead of the 2026 midterm elections. “Karoline will now be one of my top outside advisors, and an influential voice within the Republican Party, as we work to defy History, and conclusively win the Midterm Elections,” Trump stated.

He praised her tenure, calling her “one of the best White House Press Secretaries in the History of the Office” and thanking her for work that began in 2018 and continued through the 2024 campaign.

Leavitt first joined the Trump orbit during the initial administration, later served as communications director for Representative Elise Stefanik, ran her own congressional campaign in New Hampshire, and then became national press secretary for the 2024 presidential effort. Her White House briefings were frequently marked by direct exchanges with reporters and expanded access for newer media outlets.

No successor has been named. The departure marks a significant change for the administration’s communications team, where Leavitt had become one of its most visible figures.

The timing leaves open questions about how the briefing room will be managed in the coming months and what specific advisory role Leavitt will play from outside the formal White House structure.
