Democratic Presidential Candidate Slams Entire Party, Says They ‘Got To Stop Smearing Women’

Democratic presidential candidate Marianne Williamson is calling out the Democratic establishment after an intra-party feud erupted between twice-failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton and 2020 candidate Tulsi Gabbard.

Clinton’s unprovoked smear of Gabbard as a Russian agent is a part of a larger pattern of the Democratic establishment crippling candidates they find any disagreements with, Williamson claimed.

“The Democratic establishment has got to stop smearing women it finds inconvenient!” Williamson said in a tweet in which she expressed support for Gabbard.

“The character assassination of women who don’t toe the party line will backfire. Stay strong @TulsiGabbard. You deserve respect and you have mine,” she added.

This is not the first time Williamson has expressed that the Democratic Party wants its candidates to tow a certain line. If candidates find themselves outside of its establishment ideals then they are mistreated, she claimed earlier in the year.

In an op-ed with the Washington Post wrote the day after the third Democratic presidential debate in October, Williamson explained the Democratic establishment was rigging the primary to favor certain candidates—an accusation Senator Bernie Sanders made and proved in 2016.

Williamson wrote in the op-ed:

A few of us weren’t on the debate stage last night.

Supported by its friends and sponsors in the corporate media, the Democratic National Committee has sought to narrow the field of presidential candidates at the very moment when it should be opening up. Placing a political straitjacket on our primary system, controlling the process via money and ridiculous rules, the party is risking disaster.

The establishment’s paternalistic insistence that, in essence, “it’s time to shut this thing down” — making sure only its preordained category of people, discussing its preordained category of topics, is placed before the American people for consideration as contenders for the nomination to run against President Trump — has created a false, inauthentic piece of high school theater posing as the Democratic debates.

She continued:

Try as they might to throw people off the scent, the DNC and its media pals are creating the stench of inauthenticity at exactly the moment when some blazing truths should be shining through.

The problem with being inside your own bubble is that it makes you blind to what’s going on outside it. The Democratic Party stands for far more egalitarian policies than do the Republicans, but it has a weirdly more elitist relationship to its own constituency. Party bosses think they know better, claiming the right through money and establishment power to wage what amounts to an insidious assault on one of the most important aspects of our democratic process: selecting the presidential nominee.

The Russians are messing with our elections? Absolutely. But so are we. The old days of political backroom deals, where a few insiders determined who the candidate would be, are back.

In a “hot mic” moment during an interview with Fox News, Williamson said she was treated better by conservatives than those in her own party.

“What does it say that Fox News is nicer to me than the lefties are? What does it say that the conservatives are nicer to me?… It’s such a bizarre world,” Williamson said, Fox News reported in September. “You know, I’m such a lefty. I mean, I’m a serious lefty, but they’re so… I didn’t think the left was as mean as the right, they are.”

She added how Republicans “don’t have to be attacking” her during a Democratic primary while other Democrats “are working for other candidates.”

Last week, Williamson said in an interview she didn’t think that “the left was so mean” until she ran for president. In August, she claimed that “very powerful forces” within the Democratic Party were trying to prevent her from appearing on the debate stage.

She also slammed Democrats for being “condescending” to people of faith after making a tweet suggesting that prayer intervened in Hurricane Dorian’s impact on the U.S.

Clinton’s attack was immediately rejected by Gabbard, who slammed Clinton in a series of tweets as the “queen of warmongers, embodiment of corruption, and personification of the rot that has sickened the Democratic Party for so long.”
