Things keep getting worse for “woke” Disney.
Disney stock has plummeted nearly 50 percent over the past year. During the same time period, the left-wing company has openly admitted to “adding queerness” inside its programming to influence children, including its recent debut of “Lightyear.”
The company, which targets children between the ages of one to ten years old, has also publicly opposed a new law in Florida prohibiting teachers from instructing in the third grade or below on issues of sexual and gender identity without parental involvement.
On June 21, 2022, Disney’s stock price sat at just $94.92 per share, which is down 45% in the past year.
If you take one look at the graph below, you’ll see how the company stock price has completely tanked.
A leaked video of executive producer Latoya Raveneau as well as a statement by Disney Corporate President Karey Burke announced plans to add “many, many, many LGBTQ characters” to its shows and movies. The company said 50% of its characters will either be minorities or LGBTQ by the end of the year.
The newly released film “Lightyear” by Disney’s Pixar performed poorly at the box office during opening weekend with $85.6 million in revenue, much lower than the $135 million projected by experts.
In comparison, the woke-free “Top Gun 2” movie hauled in a record four-day Memorial Day weekend gross of $156 million, nearly double that of ‘Lightyear.’
“Lightyear” has faced widespread criticism for a number of decisions. To start, the franchise replaced conservative Hollywood actor Tim Allen as the voice of the iconic Buzz Lightyear with outspoken liberal actor Chris Evans.
Evans has regularly used his popularity and his social media influence to attack President Donald Trump and his supporters. He recently said critics of Disney’s pro-gay agenda are “idiots” who will “die off like dinosaurs.”
“Lightyear,” based on the character from Toy Story, features a same-sex couple and same-sex scenes. In the animated movie, astronaut Buzz Lightyear is friends with a gay woman who is in a relationship with another woman. Conservative political commentator Ben Shapiro dubbed the movie, “Adult Toy Story.”
In response to the poor box office performance of “Lightyear,” Deadline asked, “What the hell happened here?” The review did not address the “woke” characters and scenes added to the spinoff.
Deadline attempted to explain the film’s failure by suggesting it came out too soon in the franchise. “This could be a case of going to the Toy Story well too soon, too fast,” the review added.
Cultural critic John Nolte at Breitbart wrote, “Marvel releases two and three movies a year. You mean like that going to the well too soon?” Nolte mocked. “The Lord of the Rings and Hobbit came out every year. You mean like that going to the well too soon?”
“Well, three years ago, Toy Story 4 opened to $121 million. If these figures hold, Lightyear won’t do HALF that,” he wrote.
“Another thing to keep in mind is that there’s no competition,” Nolte added. “The only kiddie movie still in theaters is The Bad Guys, which opened all the way back in April. After the resounding success of Toy Story 4 and with a wide-open field at the box office, especially during the summer, especially over Father’s Day, there was never a better time to open Lightyear.”
“Lightyear” reportedly cost $200 million to produce and the company spent another $100 million at a minimum for worldwide promotion. With a $300 million price tag, Lightyear will need to gross around $550 to $650 million worldwide to simply break even.
Nolte at Breitbart says it’s “pretty unlikely” that the film will reach this amount in gross revenue.
