It all started with Hollywood director James Gunn was fired by Disney over inappropriate tweets.
These tweets were years old and resurfaced in 2018 at the height of rampant “cancel culture.” Gunn joked about rape, child molestation, and more.Gunn argued that his tweets were attempts of being “provocative” and “taboo” and he regretted posting them online.
The cast of the film, which included stars Chris Pratt and Zoe Saldana, supported Gunn in an open letter.
Gunn was later rehired and “uncanceled” by Disney as he was reinstated him as the director of “Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 3” in March 2019. The film is scheduled to be released in 2023.
Here’s Gunn’s reaction to “cancel culture” now:
When asked if his stance on cancel culture still stands today, Gunn recently told Fox News while discussing his latest movie, “The Suicide Squad”: “I mean, listen, I’m always attracted to outsiders,” he said, echoing his previous message of dismissing cancel culture.
In March, the filmmaker dismissed the overall practice in a bevy of tweets following the announcement that six books from Dr. Seuss would be discontinued for racist imagery.
“Stop calling everything ‘cancel culture’ because you’re too dim to have a nuanced opinion,” he tweeted at the time. “People can be offended by something, or think something sucks, and that’s not ‘cancel culture’ – it’s free speech.”
Meanwhile, he told Fox News of the Warner Bros. flick: “I think these are all people that feel like they don’t matter, and there’s a lot of people in this world who are told that they don’t matter, they aren’t good enough or they aren’t the right color or they aren’t the right whatever. And these are all people [in ‘The Suicide Squad’] who are considered the worst of the worst of the worst – total losers. And to be able to take a Polka Dot Man and give him some meaning and some purpose gives me great joy.”
The 51-year-old’s sequel to the 2016 David Ayer-directed “The Suicide Squad” film sees the “worst of the worst” anti-heroes the DC Comics Universe could muster up and celebrates the successes of the oddball crew.

Now New York Republican Rep. Elise Stefanik has a new nickname for Cheney. According to Stefanik, Rep. Liz Cheney is working as a “Pelosi pawn” since she joined Pelosi’s Jan. 6 committee. The committee has been heavily criticized as an extremely partisan attempt to cherrypick the facts leading up to the events on Jan. 6th at the Capitol.
“And when it comes to Liz Cheney, she is a Pelosi Republican, a Pelosi pawn at this point,” Stefanik said. “She does not represent the Republican conference, or Republican voters or the American people. Pelosi bears responsibility because we know that as early as December, there was information and intelligence that there were potential security threats and that the Capitol was not going to be secure on January 6,” she said.
“Nancy Pelosi refused to act. We also know that on January 6, Nancy Pelosi was passed a note by the sergeant-at-arms, her political appointee, asking for her permission to bring in the National Guard. She hesitated,” Stefanik added.
