A student at Georgetown University launched a Change.org petition with intentions to rename Ronald Reagan airport in Washington, D.C., after JoJo Siwa, according to The Daily Wire.

5,500 people signed the petition that the Georgetown student created.

“Why on earth is there an airport named after this war criminal[?]”

They want to change the name from Ronald Reagan airport to “JoJo Siwa Washington National Airport.”

The petition’s signature is 7,500.

“I really did not put too much thought into who it was, but my reasoning for picking JoJo Siwa was related to the fact that Reagan in his presidency did a lot of really terrible things with regard to the LGBTQ communities, specifically with the HIV and AIDS pandemic.”

People posted on social media.

“I decided to pick JoJo Siwa because she’s been this recent rise as a new LGBT figure.”

“Ronald Reagan was not good for America and I’d be glad to have a positive role model’s name on this airport.”

“I’d support renaming this airport after anyone who isn’t Ronald Reagan, and [who] was never the second-worst president in this country’s history.”

“Even Ted Bundy National Airport sounds better.”

“Ronald Reagan was a war criminal who hated all minorities but especially gay people.”

“I think it is only fitting that he is replaced by American icon JoJo Siwa.”

“I always believe that my person was just going to be my person.”

“And if that person happened to be a boy, great, and if that person happened to be a girl, great!”

From The Daily Wire:

In an interview with the Georgetown student-run publication The Hoya, Long said that he wanted to pick an LGBT figure to replace Reagan because of how the former president handled the AIDS epidemic.

Because Reagan airport is owned by the federal government, it has no authority over its name and any name change must be approved by Congress.

In the comment section of the petition, people expressed their disdain for Reagan and approval of renaming the airport after anyone else. One individual expressed that they would rather have an airport named after Ted Bundy.

Siwa made headlines in January after she announced that she identifies as a member of the LGBTQ community, though she refused to classify herself in it. The dancer made the announcement via TikTok when she came out lip-syncing to Lady Gaga’s song “Born This Way” and followed up by posting a photo of herself wearing a T-shirt that read: “Best. Gay. Cousin. Ever.”

Later, during an Instagram Live video, Siwa said that she does not identify as straight, stopping short of putting any sexual identity label on herself.

Since Siwa has never fallen in love with someone, she avoided a specific label. She also thanked people for the love and support they have shown.
