Fox News reported on Rudy Giuliani’s recent comments about how the lack of leadership in New York City is allowing the violent outbursts to continue days after the protests ended.
Giuliani stated that the riots could have been prevented if Mayor Bill de Blasio was “vaguely competent” and expressed a need for the failing mayor to resign before more damage is done.

Mayor de Blasio has an unfriendly history with the NYPD, who in recent years showed solidarity against the mayor when thousands of officers turned their back on de Blasio when he spoke at a fallen officer’s funeral.
Giuliani, a former prosecutor and mayor of NYC, has slammed de Blasio while being interviewed by Maria Bartiromo this week for Fox Business. He told Bartiromo that de Blasio should “get out of the way and let someone activate the police department” before more people lose their lives.
Giuliani expressed the frustration he feels while seeing such widespread destruction happen across the city without it being met and stopped by a forceful police presence. “We’ve watched now over and over again people looting, throwing Molotov cocktails, burning cars and now putting our police in hospitals and virtually no major arrests are made,” Giuliani said about the riots in what was the epicenter of the coronavirus outbreak in America just a month ago.
Giuliani puts the blame on de Blasio’s shoulders and did not hold back when demanded that he should remove himself from the situation. “The mayor should step down. He is incompetent … In other cities, they’re activating the National Guard. In New York City we have to activate the New York City Police Department.”.
Giuliani said that he believes that the NYPD can do the job if they are allowed to interfere, but the mayor’s lack of leadership and unpredictability has left the NYPD unsure of whether or not they have support from City Hall.
Later in the interview, Giuliani described the situation that the NYPD is facing while trying to protect businesses from looters while Mayor de Blasio’s weakness put their. He said that they are “being used as punching bags, and then he has the audacity to criticize them for being too brutal.”

Several police officers have suffered a variety wounds including burns from explosives, broken bones from being run over by a truck and being put on life support after being shot in the head.
Fox News continued the coverage of Giuliani’s criticism of Mayor de Blasio.
“Who has seen these mayors at night?” he asked. “Do you think if I had riots like this I’d be home at night? You could see me only in the morning at a safe press conference? Or do you think you see me there with the cops?”
Public and elected officials have said the protests have devolved in some cases into organized riots, including some led by white supremacy and Antifa groups.
“I haven’t seen de Blasio at the scene of any of these things. I would have been at the scene of every single one – and there would have only been one, and it would have been over.”

“All you have to do is step aside, these will be over in one night. That’s what happened in Crown Heights.”
The Crown Heights race riots of August 1991, when a riot broke out in the Brooklyn area after 7-year-old Gavin Cato, who was black, was struck and killed by a car in a rabbi’s motorcade. Hours later, a Jewish doctoral student, Yankel Rosenbaum, was stabbed to death. Four days of violence followed.
