Trump Accuses Obama Of ‘Treasonous’ Conduct In New Book, Said He ‘Got Caught Spying’

President Trump accuses former President Barack Obama of “treasonous” actions like “spying” in his new book, according to excerpts obtained by the Washington Examiner.

“What they did was treasonous, OK? It was treasonous,” Trump said to author Doug Wead during a promotion on the new book, “Inside Trump’s White House: The Real Story of His Presidency.”

“The interesting thing out of all of this is that we caught them spying on the election. They were spying on my campaign. So you know? What is that all about?” Trump added. “I have never ever said this, but truth is, they got caught spying. They were spying.”

“Anybody else would be unable to function under the kind of pressure and distraction I had. They couldn’t get anything done. No other president should ever have to go through this. But understand, there was no collusion. They would have had to make something up,” he reportedly said in the excerpt.

The Washington Examiner adds:

In 2017, Trump tweeted that he felt the Obama White House “had my wires tapped” in Trump Tower. He later said he didn’t mean it literally but that he felt his campaign was being spied on.

Attorney General William Barr earlier this year said he was looking into whether “improper surveillance” may have occurred in 2016. “I think spying did occur,” he said.

He has tasked a prosecutor to look into Obama officials and other officials who sparked the Russia collusion investigation into Trump after a report showed no collusion. New reports on that investigation described it as “criminal” in nature.

The Trump administration is already investigating these allegations as the Justice Department launched an investigation into those who initiated the Russian probe.

U.S. Attorney John Durham’s ongoing investigation has recently transitioned into a criminal probe, leading some people to believe he has found some offenses. Any potential offenses were reportedly learned after Attorney General Bill Barr took a meeting in Italy where he reportedly learned of a potential set-up between intelligence community officials and members of the 2016 Trump campaign.

Barr reportedly told embassy officials in Italy that he “needed a conference room to meet high-level Italian security agents where he could be sure no one was listening in.”

A source in the Italian Ministry of Justice told The Daily Beast earlier this month that Barr and Durham were played a taped deposition made by Joseph Mifsud, the professor who allegedly told ex-Trump aide George Papadopoulos that the Russians had “dirt” on Hillary Clinton. Mifsud reportedly was explaining to investigators in the deposition why people would want to harm him, and why he needed police protection.

Papadopoulos has suggested he was connected with Mifsud as part of a setup orchestrated by intelligence agencies.

Sources told Fox News that Durham was “very interested” to question former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper and former CIA Director John Brennan, an anti-Trump critic who recently dismissed the idea.

Brennan and Clapper were at the helm not only when Mifsud spoke to Papadopoulos, but also when an unverified and largely discredited dossier, written by British ex-spy Christopher Steele and funded by the Hillary Clinton campaign and Democratic National Committee, was used to help justify a secret surveillance warrant against former Trump adviser Carter Page in the run-up to the 2016 election.
