Hillary Clinton lost the Democratic primary election in 2008.
She lost again in 2016.
Will she lose a third time in 2020?
That’s the question on everyone’s mind but Clinton is still in the planning phase as she has yet to formally announced a bid.
If she’s polling her fellow party members for support, she may not be too happy to see that Senate Democrats do not want her to run, the National Review reports.
“She’s done a great service to our country and public service, and I supported her wholeheartedly, but I believe it’s time for another nominee,” Senate Minority Whip Dick Durbin said per the report, which cites Politico.
New Mexico Senator Martin Heinrich described a potential run as a “mistake.”
West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin was also asked if Clinton should run. He answered, “Absolutely not.”
Connecticut Senator Richard Blumenthal reportedly said, “It’s just my instinct that there’s no way she wants to go through this meat grinder again.”
California Senator Dianne Feinstein said Clinton’s ability or willingness to run wasn’t the factor, but whether voters would even consider her: “It’s hard to know whether the world has passed on or not. I’m a friend of hers and I’m extraordinarily fond of her. But that’s a factor.”
The National Review reports, “Senator Doug Jones of Alabama, Senator Mazie Hirono of Hawaii, Senator Tammy Duckworth, and Senator Jon Tester of Montana also expressed doubts about a Clinton run.”
Clinton may be poised for a run, and 65 million people voted for her in 2016, but her late entry is already being resisted by members of her own party. She would face a large pool of candidates in the Democratic primary and President Trump has four years of economic growth on his belt going into a general election.
