A Democratic Governor Just Admitted Something That Triggered a Federal Investigation Overnight

The Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division has launched an investigation after New Jersey Gov. Mikie Sherrill acknowledged that thousands of non-citizens were improperly registered to vote due to a software error.

Sherrill said a glitch at the Motor Vehicle Commission between June 2023 and June 2024 registered approximately 6,600 non-citizens. Roughly 400 of them cast ballots in subsequent elections.

Applicants correctly indicated they were not citizens, yet the system still added them to the rolls. Sherrill blamed the previous administration and insisted no election outcomes were affected.

Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon responded sharply: “Today, NJ Gov. Sherrill stated that 400 non-citizens voted in elections. This is unacceptable and illegal! The Civil Rights Division at the Justice Department is investigating this unlawful dilution of American votes.”

The department has requested detailed voter-roll records and related documentation. The action follows earlier DOJ warnings to all states about maintaining accurate registration lists and potential criminal liability for knowingly retaining non-citizens.
